Site not what it seems

Here’s a website for teachers to use to illustrate evaluation of websites. The Google Librarian, http://www.googlelibrarian.com/. Most of us librarians would have no trouble pegging this is not the real McCoy (at least, not from Google) – heck, the header even says “The Unofficial Guide to Google for Librarians.” Go to the bottom of the page, and it says “This website is neither affiliated with nor endorsed by Google Inc.”

I’m not commenting on here, nor is the purpose of this post, the credibility of the content on this site. I am pointing out that the author does not meet one of the basic tenets of blogging - transparency - that Karen Schneider suggests Library Journal, April 15, 2005, The Ethical Blogger. The Google Librarian does tell us who she is in her blog post, December 7th, 2005.
Now, Google really does have a Google Librarian Center, complete with a newsletter.

My opinion? Google Librarian Center doesn’t have much there. Google Librarian has some useful stuff.
